AMD has issued a new statement concerning recent problems with its Ryzen 7 CPUs frying themselves.
Over the last few weeks AMD and motherboard manufacturers have been grappling with a worrying issue regarding its new Ryzen 7000 CPUs where these were seemingly being fried by an unknown issue involving sky-high temperatures.
Numerous enthusiasts on Reddit were posting photos of bulbous areas of their now dead processors including damage to their motherboard's processor socket. These users had apparently not overclocked their processors, yet heat and according to some - voltages - were running away with themselves and causing significant problems.
, could 'destroy the chips' thermal sensors and thermal protection mechanisms, completely disabling its only means of detecting and protecting itself from overheating'."We have root caused the issue and have already distributed a new AGESA that puts measures in place on certain power rails on AM5 motherboards to prevent the CPU from operating beyond its specification limits, including a cap on SOC voltage at 1.3V.
We expect all of our ODM partners to release new BIOS for their AM5 boards over the next few days. We recommend all users to check their motherboard manufacturers website and update their BIOS to ensure their system has the most up to date software for their processor.
