Amazon.com is offering new users of its desktop price-comparison assistant $10 of credit if they spend $50, as part of its 48-hour Prime Day marketing blitz that began on July 15. The tool collects and processes information such as search results and page content from competing retailers’ web sites. Amazon says it does not connect this information to users’ Amazon accounts except when customers interact with Assistant, such as by comparing relevant prices on Amazon.

Executives from Alphabet, Amazon, Apple and Facebook are testifying before the House Judiciary Committee’s antitrust panel on July 16. The subject is competition in online markets.
