Doing clinic consultations online could get better with this new service offered by Amazon. The tech giant has introduced Amazon Clinic, a message-based online healthcare service that provides treatments for over 20"common health conditions" such as allergies, dandruff, hair loss, birth control, erectile dysfunction, and acne.
Users can go on the platform and select the medical condition that they want to treat. After that, they will get prompted to choose a preferred provider from an available list of licensed telehealth providers. Users are also required to answer a questionnaire before connecting with the clinicians for a consultation through a secure message-based portal. A personalized treatment plan will then get provided alongside any necessary prescriptions.
The consultations would last up to two weeks of ongoing follow-up messages between customers and clinicians. Of course, like physical consultations, the service charges a fee. However, Amazon will not be dealing with this part, as the prices get determined by the telehealth providers. Despite that, Amazon claims that"In many cases, the cost of care is equivalent or less than the average copay.
Online clinic consultations could lighten the burden on traditional in-person healthcare services and leads to shorter waiting times to diagnose and treat other chronic illnesses. Furthermore, it might also help users that are shy about consulting certain health conditions, as the service doesn't require revealing faces. It's worth mentioning that the service is currently only available in the U.S.
