Amazon will officially celebrate the opening of its newest fulfillment center in York
today.The 1.2 million-square-foot center on Commerce Drive opened in June and is the seventh Amazon facility operating in the Susquehanna Valley, employing more than 3,500 people.Since 2010, Amazon has spent over 21 billion dollars to create jobs and build new facilities.The new facility joins other facilities across the commonwealth and 7 of them are in the Susquehanna Valley.Two of the facilities opened this year. One in York and another in Mount Joy.
The purpose of building new facilities is to make the shipping and handling process faster for customers. Sam Fisher, a Public Relations employee at Amazon says they have 3,500 employees across the Susquehanna Valley.'We know we're delivering great pay. These are really and were very proud of the jobs that we're offering in this area and we're thrilled with the workforce we have brought to the new site.' Fisher said.
