High pressure will be in control to start the weekend, but low pressure will bring wet weather for the second half.The Victoria Day long weekend is often considered the unofficial start to summer, and this long weekend is all about timing weather-wise, with sunshine and some rain in the forecast.
A ridge of high pressure will move east of Newfoundland on Saturday with a mix of sun and cloud on Saturday for Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and most of Newfoundland. A bit of sunshine is possible to start and end the weekend, but rain arrives across the region on Sunday.A breezy southwest wind will lift temperatures into the high teens and low 20s for most of the Maritimes and central Newfoundland.
As high-pressure drifts eastward, low pressure will arrive in its wake. This system has several components, including low-pressure that will develop over the Great Lakes, a trough near Cape Hatteras and a separate system that will move from Hudson Bay to northern Labrador.A chance of showers will develop Saturday night in western Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, with steadier periods of rain developing from west to east in both provinces, along with Prince Edward Island and Labrador on Sunday.
