It's set to be a messy weekend across Atlantic Canada with everything from snow to rain and freezing rain forecast for parts of the region. SaltWire weather specialist breaks down what expect where and when.

Precipitation will spread east across the rest of mainland Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island Friday morning, filling into Cape Breton late Friday morning to early afternoon and then into Newfoundland and southeast Labrador Friday afternoon and night.

A period of snow is possible ahead of the system but will transition to rain as temperatures soar well above freezing. While mostly a rain event is forecast for St. John’s, significant snow and ice are possible for parts of western Newfoundland.
