We’re certainly transitioned from a more stable pattern to an active one here in Atlantic Canada.
Low-pressure that will organize on the Eastern Seaboard will bring a mix of rain, snow, and wind mid-week.
And with a trough set to develop in the jet stream as the week progresses, there are more periods of unsettled weather than sunshine to talk about. The next system of significance will develop along the eastern seaboard of the U.S. from energy originating near the Gulf of Mexico. The centre of this low will track near the Bay of Fundy Wednesday night into Thursday, crossing western Newfoundland Thursday night.
Precipitation develops ahead of the low from west to east Wednesday afternoon and night in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island, then into Newfoundland and southeast Labrador early Thursday.This will be a snow event from northwestern Newfoundland into southeastern Labrador, along with central to northern regions of New Brunswick, where 10 to 20-plus cm is forecast.
This will be largely a rain event for the rest of Newfoundland and southern New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island, with five to 15-plus mm forecast. However, precipitation may initially begin as wet snow or a rain/snow mix for the rest of Newfoundland, southern New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and over higher terrain in Nova Scotia – mainly from the Annapolis Valley to the North Shore and in the Cape Breton Highlands.
