It’s quiet in the Atlantic right now, with no activity expected over the next week, but if the predictions for the season are correct, the upcoming season could be extremely busy.
But the prediction for a high number of named storms does not mean all will hit land or that a tropical cyclone will make landfall in Atlantic Canada. Some of the busiest seasons on record have had no storms land in our region. The busiest season on record in 2020 produced 30 named storms, but just one – post-tropical storm Teddy made landfall in eastern Nova Scotia and, thankfully, wasn’t a major storm.
There has also been chatter on social media in the past week about how NOAA’s forecasts compared to what does happen.
