The colder air is thanks to the jet stream sagging to our south and a high-pressure ridge pulling this arctic air in from northern Quebec and Labrador. This high will also attempt to keep storms out of the region.

The rest of February into March will see temperatures below seasonal as high-pressure draws in arctic air.Atlantic Canada will see the arrival of the longest cold period so far this season during a winter that has mainly been a temperature rollercoaster.

While it won’t be as bitter as the extreme cold earlier this month for most, temperatures will sit in the minus teens for much of Atlantic Canada this weekend, with wind chill values of -30 C to -15 C during the coldest periods on Saturday, except -40 C to -30 C in northwestern Newfoundland, and -55 C to -40 in Labrador.
