Sen. Bob Menendez is facing growing calls to resign from the Senate following corruption charges. Here is what happens if he were to step down.
FOX News Chad Pergram reports on what Democrats are saying about the New Jersey senators bribery charges and his future in Washington. that have led to amplified calls for the senior Democrat to resign from the Senate.
Menendez has since encountered growing calls to resign from within his own political party. New York Democrat Rep. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez said she believes it is in the"best interest" for Menendez to resign. Gov. Murphy also said he believes Menendez should give up his Senate spot."The alleged facts are so serious that they compromise the ability of Senator Menendez to effectively represent the people of our state," Murphy said in a statement.
"Those who believe in justice believe in innocence until proven guilty," Menendez previously said."I intend to continue to fight for the people of New Jersey with the same success I've had for the past five decades." The bribes included cash, gold bars, home mortgage payments, compensation for no-show jobs, a luxury vehicle and"other things of value," according to the indictment.
