Alex G's new album, 'God Save The Animals,' is his most thrilling and playful record yet. 'I'm always trying to keep myself entertained while making music,' he tells V.F. 'Because that's just my only gauge of the quality of it.'
The band’s presence has gone through a slight shift in ethos too. For years, the band has used the 2002 Rascal Flatts cover of “Life Is a Highway” as their walk-on music, occasionally performing it themselves, and it works as a statement of purpose. However serious, solitary, or indie Giannascoli can occasionally sound on the records, the live shows have been a place for him to let loose, play around with music, and get a little theatrical.
Instead of simply upgrading Gianniscoli’s sound, the professional studio experience ultimately expanded the palette he could work with. “He’s not the kind of person to say, Oh, I’m gonna go in there to make the perfect pop song,” Acchione said. “He wanted to keep trying to do weird shit, but in a way that’s even more cool.” Giannascoli told
