Alberta to release year-end fiscal numbers Thursday amid weaker oil prices abpoli ableg
Recommended from EditorialLooking forward, February’s 2023-24 pre-election budget put spending at nearly $70 billion, while still expecting a surplus of $2.4 billion. That budget projected that the average price of WTI would remain at least US $79 per barrel.
“The UCP could already be in a deficit, and if they aren’t now, just a slight drop in the price of oil means that they will be for sure,” said Notley, estimating the price of WTI needs to average $81 by the end of the year for the budget to be balanced, while the UCP fails to explain how they would manage such a shortfall.
