A University of Alberta team has come up with a way to combine medical imaging with virtual reality to help clinicians locate and understand what's happening inside their patients' bodies as they treat them.

Kawchuk and his colleagues have figured out how to use a commercially available set of virtual reality goggles to help doctors or other professionals view an X-ray superimposed on a patient's body. They can align the image with the patient in front of them. "Where does it hurt? Here? OK, now I see it in the image that goes along with it when I poke you here."
