“The notion behind it is a last resort,” said Smith, adding she wants to try “every other option first.” Smith’s comments came at an announcement the UCP government had reached a memorandum of understanding to fund a new 75-bed recovery community facility on Enoch land, just west of Edmonton, as part of its 2023 budget, first released in February. Smith said the planned facility will be able to support up to 300 people each year.
