NDP Opposition health critic David Shepherd said he worried the fee change could \u0022put a damper\u0022 on the vaccination program

Alberta pharmacists are facing fee reductions the Opposition NDP worries could hamper the province’s ability to get COVID-19 vaccinations to Albertans who want them., which will see the fee for administering COVID-19 shots go down to $17 starting Sunday and down to $13 in April. The Alberta Pharmacists’ Association did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Postmedia Saturday.

Charlotte Taillon, press secretary to Health Minister Adriana LaGrange, told Postmedia that since COVID-19 is now being handled in the same way as other respiratory viruses, its vaccine is being treated as a routine immunization.“Prior to this change, pharmacies in Alberta receive the highest fees in the country for providing a COVID-19 vaccine,” said Taillon, adding that Alberta was the only province to introduce the temporary reimbursement for the COVID-19 assessment.

“By not making the numbers available, it leads people to think that things are better than they are,” she said.
