In the scenario, which changes yearly, a breach of the dam caused flooding of the Red Deer River downstream to several municipalities including downtown Red Deer. The scenario outlined the impacts on property, people’s livelihood, agriculture, transportation and infrastructure. “Everybody you can think of that would be involved in a coordinated response to a catastrophic event like this,” said Lacroix. “Training for the Olympics during the Olympics is a bad idea, so that’s why we do these things.”
“We’ll be providing the emergency management cabinet committee data as to the affected population, where they’re located, what our local authorities are doing or not, and what we recommend in terms of bringing tools to bear,” Lacroix said.
