She told the crowd she would learn from her mistakes and ended with a warning to Ottawa that generated a loud cheer from those crowding the stage.
“The premier had a fantastic showing, I think it put a lot of people’s minds at ease,” he said shortly after the race was called. The debate took place on the same day a scathing report from the province’s ethics commissioner found Smith had broken conflict of interest rules over a conversation she had with her justice minister about a high-profile COVID-19 case.
“There was ebbs and flows like there is in any campaign,” he said. “After the leadership leaders debate we saw a positive shift at the doors.”
