As the “stealth” omicron subvariant causes some concern worldwide because it’s more difficult for tests to detect, Alaska has identified at least 13 such cases in the state.

Alaska on Friday reported 1,870 new cases of COVID-19 over two days and fewer hospitalizations as part of a continued slowdown in emerging coronavirus infections in the state.

The number of COVID-positive patients in the state’s hospitals also continued to fall as reported Friday, from 119 on Tuesday to 105 by Thursday. The state’s larger hospitals haveBy Friday, 13 cases of the BA.2 variant had been detected around the state, said Dr. Joe McLaughlin, Alaska’s state epidemiologist.BA.
