In this image taken from video provided by Spencer Warren, who works for a wilderness guiding service, he arrived about 6:30 a.m. Friday, June 14, 2024, to prepare the floatplane for a client’s trip when he discovered the calf trapped in Beluga Lake in Homer, Alaska.

When Spencer Warren pulled up at work on Friday morning in Homer, Alaska, he heard a strange, high-pitched creaking sound from the nearby lake.Warren Spencer arrived at work Friday morning to find a moose calf wedged between a floatplane and a dock, making a frightened sound like 'a creaking wooden door.' When Spencer Warren pulled up at work on Friday morning, he heard a strange, high-pitched creaking sound from the nearby lake.

"The first thing that popped into my head was, 'Alright, where's mama?" he said. "I turned to my right, and there she was, coming right at me."As an Alaskan, Warren is well aware that a moose encounter — especially with a protective mother — can quickly turn dangerous, if not deadly. By the time the officers arrived 15 minutes later, Warren says the mother moose had wandered a bit farther away, likely to protect her other calf.

The moose family stuck around Warren's workplace for awhile after the rescue. Here, the mama moose licks her newly freed calf. But once it got its bearings, the calf found his way back to its mother and sibling for a family reunion.'Britain's loneliest sheep' rescued after more than 2 years stranded at the bottom of a cliff
