A Birmingham, Ala. firefighter died after being shot in an attack at firehouse. Police are investigating the shooting as a 'targeted attack.'
Jordan Melton died Monday, five days after what police are investigating as a ““My heart is hurting today,” Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin wrote in a statement. “Jordan was a vibrant young brother who was full of life. He loved to talk sports as much as he loved good barbecue.”Birmingham Fire and Rescue is holding a blood drive in honor of both firefighters on Wednesday, July 19.on the day of the shooting, Birmingham Police Chief Scott Thurmond indicated that the shooting was targeted.
“We are trying to see why would someone want to target one of these fire stations in Birmingham,” Thurmond said. The shooter entered Fire Station #9 through an open bay door while Melton, Jones and a third firefighter were conducting routine equipment checks, according to Thurmond.
