All parties involved in Alabama's congressional redistricting cases met at the Hugo L. Black Federal Court House in Birmingham to express their preferences and

objections to three congressional map plans submitted to a three-judge federal court panel by a special master. The judges said they would have a ruling "shortly" on which map Alabama will use for the 2024 election cycle.

"We have a lot of voter apathy because people believe their vote doesn't count. I want them to know, that yes your vote does in fact count. Your vote does matter. Your vote is your power. This is an example of that. We are fighting for all Black voters whether you are in the new district or not to have a voice in the State of Alabama," said Letetia Jackson, another plaintiff.

Plan 1 is the only map with two majority-minority districts, District 2 and District 7. In plans two and three, District 2 is considered an opportunity district with a Black Voting Age Population in the high 40s. The Alabama Democratic Conference was also heard during the proceedings. They objected to all three maps and believed the Special Master did not go far enough to provide two districts where Black voters have a chance to elect a candidate of their choice. The ADC believed a "white voter veto" was possible for all three plans.

"We didn't do all of this work to then go into the election cycle and sit at home. We need people to go out to register to vote, to show up to vote. Anytime they have an opportunity, volunteer with your local civic engagement organization," said Milligan.State senator, Merika Coleman, is considering it. She currently serves Senate District 19 in Jefferson County.

Congressman Barry Moore currently serves District 2. His office said he won't make a decision about running for the district again until "he's had the opportunity to see the final map and prayerfully seek God's guidance."

It's Confirmed. M87's Black Hole is Actually SpinningIt's Confirmed. M87's Black Hole is Actually SpinningThe supermassive black hole at the heart of M87 was the target of the Event Horizon Telescope, revealing the area around its event horizon for the first time. Although an accretion disk surrounded the black hole, astronomers weren't sure if the black hole itself was rotating. They imaged the region with radio telescopes and discovered the remnants of polar jets, showing that the black hole's rotation axis had undergone precession over time. This precession indicates that the black hole is rotating; they're just not sure how quickly yet.
