Calgary Canucks \u0027need to be a successful team\u0027 this Alberta Junior Hockey League season
“I think last year, we knew what we lacked but were in a lot of games,” said Moran of his seventh-place — and 19-32-6-2 — Canucks. “We had 29 one-goal games. This year, we need to be on the right side of those one-goal games. It really helps us with recruiting if we’re more successful on-ice is what we’re learning, and I think we’ve got some key guys in, and hopefully, we can continue to be able to build with those guys.
Moran is also leaning on goaltender Julian Molianaro to settle the team down in their own end. The Ontarian — joined by Calgarian, Canucks veteran and fellow 19-year-old Spencer Borsos between the pipes — comes west after two years in the Ontario Junior Hockey League, where he posted a solid 2.15 goals-against average and a .908 save percentage in 2022-23 with the Collingwood Blues.
“Bowden Singleton, Gavin Garland and Ty Hickie took the lead in the pre-season,” continued the former Calgary Hitmen superstar. “And I think we’ve got a good supporting cast that can help and challenge them each night to produce offence for us. Moran’s also feeling like he’s got brass backing him in trying to turn the club into a contender again. It’s four straight days of league games — Wednesday through Saturday — involving all 16 teams, at Max Bell .
