Police allege that three people went into a currency exchange business on March 15, near Yonge Street and Major Mackenzie Drive, and demanded cash. One of them was armed with a gun.
Police say they assaulted a person before running away with merchandise. The victim was taken to hospital, treated and released.They allegedly seized cocaine and fentanyl, along with ammo and an extended gun magazine. Jesiah Byer-Coates, 21, of Ajax, has been charged with robbery with a firearm, possession of property obtained by crime, possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, possession of fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking and failure to comply with an undertaking.
Two others suspects have yet to be identified. They are described as male, Black, around 30 years old and between 5’7″ and 6′ tall, with average builds.
