A 30-year-old Airdrie man faces six counts of sexual assault after incidents at Walmart and No Frills in Airdrie and two in Calgary, RCMP say.
A 30-year-old Airdrie man was charged with multiple counts of sexual assault on Thursday after four incidents were reported in the Calgary bedroom community of Airdrie and two in Calgary. Airdrie RCMP Staff Sgt. Steve Brown announced the charges at a Friday afternoon news conference, saying the detachment had been investigating a series of sexual assaults that began last month.
Details of the Reported Incidents
The first incident was reported on Aug. 12, when a woman shopping at the Airdrie Walmart was inappropriately grabbed by a man. A second assault under similar circumstances was reported at the same store on Aug. 29.
On Sept. 17 at the Airdrie No Frills, two women were reportedly grabbed inappropriately. Brown said a confrontation took place with the second female victim before the man fled the store.
Those two females have yet to be identified, and Brown asked them to come forward if they see the release. The RCMP are seeking the public's help in identifying them.
Calgary Incidents and Investigation
Brown said the Calgary Police Service alerted his detachment that two similar incidents in Calgary, at a Walmart and a Shoppers Drug Mart, were also being investigated. Investigators identified consistent physical characteristics of the male, clothing, and the repeated use of a red SUV throughout the occurrences, Brown said.
That investigation culminated in a suspect being identified and arrested in Airdrie on Thursday. The 30-year-old Airdrie man has been charged with six counts of sexual assault, four in Airdrie and two in Calgary.
He was released on conditions and is scheduled to appear before the Alberta Court of Justice in Airdrie on Oct. 1.
RCMP and Calgary Police Partnership
Brown said the investigation demonstrates the strong partnership between the RCMP and the Calgary Police Service and reflects their shared commitment to transparency, accountability, and maintaining the trust of the communities they serve.
He urged anyone who believes they are a victim or has any information regarding any of the noted investigations to call the RCMP.
The incidents have raised concerns in Airdrie, a community north of Calgary, and police are continuing to investigate. The RCMP are asking anyone with information to come forward.
