No injuries reported and the Transportation Safety Board of Canada is investigating
A Porter Airlines aircraft skidded off a runway after landing at the Sault Ste. Marie Airport late Sunday evening.
“Porter landed at about 10:20 last evening and went off the end of the runway and came to rest in a grassy area,” said Terry Bos, Sault Ste. Marie Airport Development Corporation president and CEO. “There were no injuries on board and there doesn’t appear to be any damage to the aircraft. We had people on site and we responded but there was no need for us to do any medical or fire services at all,” Bos told SooToday.
Airport limousines escorted the passengers to the Sault Airport terminal, their baggage removed from the plane. The aircraft - a Dash 8 flying in from Toronto’s Billy Bishop Airport - was carrying 48 passengers and four crew members. The plane was still sitting off the runway on Monday morning where it came to rest while Sault Airport staff and the Transportation Safety Board of Canada investigate.
