Despite being set in the New Republic era alongside The Mandalorian, Ahsoka is essentially a sequel to Star Wars Rebels.
The featurette, released on the Star Wars YouTube channel is titled "Rebel Crew" and specifically focuses on the adaptation of Rebels' characters in Ahsoka. From the exploration of Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Hera Syndulla and Sabine Wren respectively to the design process involved to make both actresses look like their animated counterparts, the Ahsoka featurette highlights the important process of Star Wars' newest Disney+ entry.
Ahsoka Flawlessly Brings The Rebels Heroes To Live-Action The featurette being released shortly after the airtime of Ahsoka episodes 1 and 2 is no accident, as the show has already proven to flawlessly bring Rebels' heroes to live-action Star Wars. Winstead and Bordizzo perfectly embody what was so compelling about Hera and Sabine in Rebels, from their family dynamic to their tenacity and heroics.
It would have been easy for Ahsoka to feel unnatural in its continuation of characters like Hera and Sabine due to the live-action medium differing in many ways from that of animation. However, with Filoni at the helm and Ahsoka composer Kevin Kiner perfectly transporting viewers familiar with Rebels back to the world of the animated show, the reveals of Ahsoka episodes 1 and 2 put any doubts to rest over the translation of the beloved characters.
