Baylor College of Medicine graduates pose for a photo with a sign that says where they will attend for their residency programs during Match Day Friday, March 15, 2019, in Houston.Hundreds of fourth-year medical school students in Houston find out today where they will continue their education for the next three to seven years — a rite of passage that will be held in-person for the first time since the pandemic began.
The students from Baylor College of Medicine and McGovern Medical School at UTHealth will join thousands of peers from around the country for the event, known as Match Day, during which they will open envelopes containing their residency assignment. “It’s really exciting to be back in person and getting to celebrate with my classmates,” said Michael Reul, a Baylor College of Medicine student. “We’ve been through a lot together.”
Reul will find out this morning, when students open their envelopes at 11 a.m., where he will continue his training as a cardiac surgeon. He will be following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather, both cardiac surgeons in the Texas Medical Center.
