Officers were called to the 3000 block of 2nd Avenue S.E. in Franklin Industrial Park around 4:20 a.m. for reports of a break-and-enter. Calgary police said the man used a weapon to assault one of the officers, and an officer shot their gun at the suspect. Neufeld told reporters that an officer who is a former medic attempted first aid on the suspect, but he was declared deceased at the scene by EMS. The injured officer was treated at the scene by EMS.
