Joey Kirchner was a bit of a wild card going into his second season of Bachelor in Paradise Canada, but he says the love he found is forever
What was it like to relive those anxiety-ridden moments? Kirchner admits he was “pretty much” yelling at the screen as he watched his former self humming and hawing.
If Kirchner, an actor and model, seemed annoyingly gun-shy when it came to committing to a formal engagement, it was not without reason. “I loved the scene when they were showing our perspectives simultaneously,” Tookes says. “So me worrying that I’m not deserving of love and Joey worrying that the same thing will happen as the first season and just committing in general. So we’re kind of having a conversation between the two of us without actually speaking. So I loved just hearing his perspective that day. It was so anxiety-provoking.
The couple have spent their time in Toronto, Medicine Hat and New York in the past year. Both families are excited about the engagement, although Kirchner admits he didn’t tell his mother that he was participating in the second season when it was filming last year for fear she would disapprove after the fallout of Season 1.
There have been other significant changes for the couple since the show wrapped. Kirchner continues to look for work as an actor and model, but Tookes left her HR career in September to concentrate full time on acting, music and modeling. Even when she worked in the corporate world, she moonlighted in showbiz. She performed in a folk duo with her brother, Christian, under the name Tookes.
