Frankie Montas and Lou Trivino return to the Oakland Coliseum less than four weeks after they were acquired by the New York Yankees
OAKLAND – For weeks prior to Major League Baseball’s trade deadline earlier this month, Frankie Montas had to answer questions on a regular basis about his uncertain future with the A’s.
“I was here a long time. This was the team that gave me an opportunity to show what I can do, and I’m always going to appreciate that.” It’s a bit of misfortune, as Montas spent six-plus seasons with the A’s and became one of the team’s most consistent and recognizable starters, going 35-30 with a 3.70 ERA over 114 appearances, which including 89 starts.
The Yankees made the deal happen, sending Sears and minor leaguers Cooper Bowman, Luis Medina, and Ken Waldichuk to Oakland for the two veteran arms. “It’s a new team. I have to make new friends,” Montas said. “I’m getting a feel for how they play, but it’s been really good.” Montas, though, has been less consistent. He allowed 18 hits and 14 earned runs in 14 innings over his first three starts before a bounce-back performance Tuesday against the New York Mets.
