Meteorologist Jordan Nicholls says Toronto could see a mix of ice pellets and snow this week.
After what is expected to be a mild and rainy Family Day, Environment and Climate Change Canada is predicting a winter storm could reach the city Wednesday night.Toronto could see precipitation and temperatures around 5 C on Family Day Monday, before daily-high temperatures dip below freezing Wednesday.
Environment Canada meteorologist Jordan Nicholls said a low-pressure system could bring a winter storm to they city overnight Wednesday, bringing a chance of ice pellets and snow to Toronto. The weather system is still several days away, Nicholls said, which he said makes it hard to predict what kind of precipitation Toronto will see.
Right now, Nicholls is predicting parts of southwestern Ontario — including Windsor, Hamilton and Caledonia — could see freezing rain accretion of up to one centimetre Wednesday. Nicholls said the storm could transition to snow and ice pellets as it moves over Toronto. “It’s certainly a difficult forecast, to pin down what’s going to happen at this point,” Nicholls said, “other than to say that it’s going to be messy.”
Nicholls said precipitation could leave Toronto as early as Thursday. During the day, Nicholls said the city could see some freezing drizzle or light snow, before the snow moves on overnight.will drop to -2 C during the day on Wednesday and hover until dropping to -11 C overnight Thursday. The agency is predicting Toronto will see temperatures of -6 C on Friday, with a 30 per cent chance of flurries and partially cloudy skies.
