Alaska's soldiers to travel east for training in Norway.
Published: Mar. 1, 2024 at 4:39 PM AKSTFAIRBANKS, Alaska - Late in March, the soldiers of the 11th Airborne Division will travel to Norway for the Arctic Shock exercise, continuing their arctic warfare training.
As the arctic looks to be a potential battlefront for future wars, the U.S. and it’s allies have been working to improve cooperative defense efforts in the region. This includes conducting battle simulations with multiple foreign partners on the ground. Most recently that included theexercise in Alaska. As those efforts continue, another exercise will bring American troops to Europe.
The “Arctic Shock” exercise combines Norwegian and U.S. forces for a training that supports a National Arctic Strategy focusing on enhanced multi-combatant relationships, interoperability and the ability to conduct combat in the arctic. Around 150 troops from the 11th Airborne Division will head to Bardufoss, Norway for the exercise which takes place between March 18 and 22.
Arctic Shock will consist of over-the-pole movements, an airborne jump and field training, much like the JPMRC.Copyright 2024 KTVF. All rights reserved.
