Jeff Sessions, President Trump's first attorney general, carried a resignation letter in his pocket every time he went to the White House, according to the Mueller report

President Trump, left, shakes hands with then-FBI Chief James Comey in January 2017.The special counsel found that President Trump engaged in "multiple acts" that could have exerted influence on law enforcement investigations, but that his efforts were "mostly unsuccessful" because his subordinates refused to carry out his orders.

"McFarland told Priebus she did not know whether the president had directed Flynn to talk to Kislyak," the report says. After telling Mr. Priebus she was not comfortable with writing such a statement, she was advised to talk to White House lawyers. The special counsel's report reveals new details about President Trump's conversations with his former lawyer Michael Cohen during the 2016 campaign about efforts to build a Trump Tower in Moscow, which Mr. Cohen told prosecutors were far more extensive than the president has publicly indicated.
