After 2021 disappointment, Stampeders not taking Elks lightly on Labour Day CFL

Prior to last year’s loss, the Stamps had won eight straight Labour Day Classics. There were some good Edmonton teams during that stretch, too, but the Stampeders made it a priority to rise to the occasion. “I was pissed,” said Stamps veteran receiver Kamar Jorden, who had 123 receiving yards in that game. “I remember snapping on the whole team. It’s a young team this year, but last year was a really young team and there was a lot going on and the team just didn’t understand the importance of that game. This year, any Stamps rookies who don’t understand the magnitude of Monday’s game were given a little history lesson at Saturday’s practice.
“When Jeff Garcia comes out and shows the passion he had talking about this game, how can you not feel the intensity?” Jorden said. “As a competitor, as a member of this team, you’re seeing all the faces coming out and the passion that goes into this game and it means something. Obviously, it’s football — you play your game, but this one means a little more.”
