AFC Toronto bolsters its defense by acquiring experienced goalkeeper Sofia Manner from the NWSL champion Orlando Pride.
AFC Toronto has secured the services of a formidable goalkeeper in the form of 6-foot-1 Sofia Manner , who joins the team via transfer from the National Women's Soccer League ( NWSL ) champion Orlando Pride . The 27-year-old Finnish talent brings valuable experience and a proven track record of success to Toronto. Manner's journey to AFC Toronto began in December 2023 when she signed with Orlando.
However, she saw limited playing time behind Anna Moorhouse, who stepped into the starting role following the departure of veteran Canadian goalkeeper Erin McLeod. McLeod has since joined the NSL's Halifax Tides FC. Moorhouse's stellar performance during the 2024 NWSL regular season, featuring a league-record 13 clean sheets, solidified Orlando's position at the top of the standings. While at Orlando, Manner had a brief taste of action in a penalty shootout victory against CF Monterrey in the NWSL X Liga MX Femenil Summer Cup. Prior to joining Orlando, she played for FC Honka in the Finnish women's first tier, where she was recognized for her exceptional skills, earning nominations for Goalkeeper of the Year and Best Player Award after recording 10 shutouts in 23 games across all competitions. Manner's experience playing for FC Honka and her collegiate career at Stony Brook University, where she achieved numerous accolades, including America East freshman of the year and America East goalkeeper of the year honors, showcase her exceptional talent and growth as a goalkeeper
