Before local fundraising can begin to help fuel individual campaigns, federal riding associations need to officially register with Elections Canada—a process made slightly more cumbersome as a result of the recent redistribution effort, which saw riding boundaries adjusted across the country and five new seats added to the electoral map—and so far, the Liberals are leading the pack.
The federal party “has the resources” to analyze boundary changes and determine how bank accounts should be split up based on the percentage of ground coming or going from one riding to the next, and direct EDAs accordingly. “Once it’s in place and locked in, like it is now, which happened in April … that’s when you start working on, ‘OK, now we have to start making these changes.
