Israel Adesanya will be looking to rebound from the first loss of his professional MMA career when he puts his UFC middleweight title on the line against Marvin Vettori at UFC 263 as a solid -275 favourite on theAdesanya saw his bid for the UFC light heavyweight title against Jan Blachowicz at UFC 259 fall short, dropping a five-round unanimous decision, and he will return to the middleweight division with Saturday night’s fight at Gila River Arena in Glendale, Ariz.
Adesanya has dominated the middleweight division since making his UFC debut three years ago, posting nine straight wins to improve his pro MMA record while fighting at 185 pounds to an unblemished 20-0. However, Vettori represents an intriguing challenge for the champion, as he prepares to defend his title for a third time.
Now looking to atone for that defeat, Vettori looks to Saturday’s rematch pegged as a +220 underdog atsites. Vettori has gone undefeated in fight outings since that loss, capped by a five-round unanimous decision win over Kevin Holland two months ago at UFC Vegas 23. The 27-year-old earned a reputation as a submission specialist early in his career, and earned a Performance of the Night bonus for his spectacular first-round submission win over Karl Robeson at UFC Vegas 2.
Saturday night will mark the second time that Figueiredo and Moreno have battled for the belt since December. Figueiredo was forced to settle for a controversial majority draw in their clash at UFC 256 after getting slapped with a one-point penalty for an apparent groin strike. That put an end to a five-fight win streak for Figueiredo, a run that featured three first-round submission wins.
Listed as a +175 underdog for Saturday’s rematch, Moreno is undefeated in six straight fights, but is winless in two previous UFC fights that have extended into championship rounds.
