Singer and icon of style Jane Birkin dies at 76
British actress and singer Jane Birkin, a 1960s and 70s style icon who rose to fame singing in French and was later associated with an eponymous high-end handbag, was found dead at her home in Paris on Sunday at the age of 76.
The “most Parisian of the English has left us,” said Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo. “We will never forget her songs, her laughs and her incomparable accent which always accompanied us.” Born Jane Mallory Birkin in London in December 1946, she was the daughter of British actress Judy Campbell and Royal Navy commander David Birkin.
