ACCUWEATHER ALERT: Winter storm could bring up to 6' of snow on Saturday Latest forecast:
WINTER STORM WARNING: goes into effect for Carbon, Monroe and Lancaster counties beginning Saturday morning.
SATURDAY: An area of low pressure that forms near the Gulf Coast will lift northeast along the Mid-Atlantic coast. As this storm rapidly strengthens, an arctic cold front will also be approaching from the northwest bringing a surge of cold air.As colder air races in, the rain will transition to wet snow. The heart of the storm is during the morning and tapers off quickly into the afternoon.
Temperatures will start off in the upper 40s early Saturday before falling to near freezing by lunchtime. Some of the northwest suburbs will already be in the 20s by 12 p.m. This will lead to a quick freeze-up, especially in areas that have snow, slush and standing water left on the ground.Interior south Jersey, and Central Delaware will likely see 1-3".The highest snowfall totals will be confined to the Poconos and Northeastern Pennsylvania where 6"+ is possible.
