It's been a long and winding road navigating the different ways traffic has changed around the Jaguars stadium. Now along with the Hart Bridge's new ramps, there's a different intersection with A. Philip Randolph Boulevard.
was initially done to open up the view of the St. Johns River to the stadium and Jaguars team owner Shad Khan’s then-planned $2.5 billion “urban village” stretching from TIAA Bank Field to the waterfront, city officials said., office building and upgraded marina on the riverfront. But ramp demolition work continued, starting at the eastern end of the mile-long overhead segment across from the stadium.
Those August traffic pattern changes saw temporary angled on- and off-ramps between the bridge and Gator Bowl Boulevard. Then an SUV mistakenly turned the wrong way onto the westbound ramp of the Hart Bridge off Gator Bowl Boulevard before hitting an out-of-service Jacksonville Transportation Authority bus, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report. Two women died in the head-on crash.
New straight-through dual lanes east- and westbound connect Gator Bowl Boulevard directly to the Hart Bridge, with overhead mast traffic signals and medians. Downtown-bound drivers coming off the bridge also have a new right-turn lane onto Gator Bowl northbound. But there are no turn lanes on downtown-bound Gator Bowl since the medians are temporary as construction continues.
