A growing number of U.S. adults say they know someone who is transgender.

That’s significantly higher than the 0.6% of respondents of all ages who said they are transgender and 1% who said they are nonbinary. Some 1.6% of respondents 30 to 45 said they are transgender or nonbinary, and 0.3% of respondents 50 or over. Pew found 44% of respondents knew someone personally who is transgender, up from 37% in 2017, and 20% of respondents said they know someone personally who is nonbinary.
