I am referring to sewing, with a needle, thread, and perhaps a sewing machine.“I really wanted to make clothes and other things but wasn’t very good at it so I dropped it. I was trying to teach myself. My sister was really good at it as she had more patience than I had.”Mokler says she always had a desire to create nice things, but it simply didn’t happen for many years until she took quilting classes.

Although Peicheff is self taught mostly, she grew up watching her mother sew all the time. Her mother, who went to college for fashion design, worked in a sewing warehouse. Carla Peicheff is the owner of Carla’s Creations, where she creates and sells pouches, wristlets, home decor items, wallets and more that are made with designer fabrics. - ContributedPeicheff also feels that sewing is a skill that’s been lost among young people, and not only young people, as she points out that many adults don’t know how to sew on a button or stitch closed a simple tear.

Northover says that while some members of their team are self taught, some have also completed in-depth textile studies with colleges and institutes throughout North America, and “most are life-long learners as more online access becomes available for people to enhance and broaden their knowledge.”
