Any hopes that the teenager might still be alive were dashed on Wednesday, when officials confirmed that human remains discovered in a trash can outside a home on the southwest side of Chicago belonged to Ochoa-Lopez, and that her baby had been ripped from her womb. Piotr Bobak, Clarisa Figueroa’s boyfriend, was charged with concealment of a homicide, police said. The younger Figueroa allegedly confessed to aiding her mother in the killing.
“Through DNA testing we are now certain the child was Ms. Ochoa’s," Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson said at Thursday afternoon news conference. The motivation behind the alleged killing was unclear, but Johnson speculated the Figueroas may have wanted to “raise the child as their own.” Police confirmed Thursday that Ochoa-Lopez was lured to the home by Clarisa Figueroa, whom she met through a Facebook group for young mothers. They said Ochoa-Lopez had bought items from Clarisa prior to the killing.
