In addition to becoming more familiar with operating and maintaining the ATVs the soldiers would use in the event of an emergency response, the members are also taking the opportunity to reach out to the communities they are travelling through to inform residents about the Royal Newfoundland Regiment and maybe even find some new recruits for their ranks.
“We get to meet people in the community and hopefully find people who want to join our ranks and we also get out there and get some important training that is critical to our jobs.”'I don’t know how they endured it': New book highlights the Royal Newfoundland Regiment's trench experience during First World WarCommunity engagement was a bit sparse on the first leg of the trek — from Port aux Basques to Gallants — on Monday as the weather was unco-operative.
“It gives you an incentive to work hard and makes you realize you’re part of something bigger than what you are as a person.” “It’s been great to go across the province — it’s so beautiful and the trails are so nice,” she said. “It’s also nice to get into communities and talk to everyone and see all the people waving to you as you go through.”
