A return to Ireland - post Covid
For a “get out of town” tour and a chance to see some countryside I really enjoyed the Glendalough Wicklow tour: beautiful scenery and situated between two valleys. The site is dotted with monastic ruins, our guide explained the history of this ancient pilgrimage place, one of the most important religious sites in Ireland.
I enjoyed wandering around Dublin especially Georgian Dublin to admire those perfect squares and parks like Merrion Square and St. Stephen’s Green. I visited the Iveagh Gardens and had coffee at the MoLI museum, Ireland’s Museum of Literature. As one would expect MoLI has an excellent book shop and the place to buy Irish authors and tasteful souvenirs to take home.Article content I love old churches and Dublin is full of parish churches; I never miss a chance to visit them. Dubliners love their churches and drop in as they pass to light candles or say a prayer for a sick friend or neighbor. Ireland is a very multi-cultural country now, as well as having their own very young population they also have young people from all over the world. The bars and cafes are staffed with migrants workers all with Irish accents who joke and chat to customers in the friendly Irish way. Eating out is expensive the world over but in Ireland I never felt gouged because the food is good and the portions are generous. I love Irish lamb and fresh fish and ordered it every time it was on the menu. Now that I have taken my first trip post Covid I feel I am ready to start working on the bucket list again.
