As a former Member of Parliament, I found this issue resonates deeply with me, not just as a Canadian, but also as an Indigenous person who recognizes the echoes of genocide and survival in Syria’s story.

Syria’s future is far from guaranteed, and the rebel factions’ divergent visions for governance could lead to further war. But, for now, the world is witnessing a rare moment of unity in a nation that has been fractured for too long. From an Indigenous perspective, the path forward for Syria involves more than rebuilding structures—it demands healing the soul of the nation.
