“It’s amazing to see how similar our stories are although we’re from such different parts of the world.”“When I first started playing it was really different,” she said. “But since 2015, I feel that there’s been more representation of black people in rugby. It definitely is starting to grow and I think it will only go up from here.”

The PREP Academy is a community based non-profit organization that helps prepares African Nova Scotian high school students for post-secondary education and beyond. While in Antigonish, she has been involved with the B.L.A.C.C. Students Society, a support group which, according to its website, “provides a safe space and sense of community for students of African descent.”

The X-Women played four pre-season exhibition matches against NCAA opponents during the final weekend of August. “Mike wanted everyone playing in these games. He wanted to see where everyone stood with the team and what our strengths and weaknesses are. Some of the players we faced were from the U20 American team. It was so beneficial to have everyone get time on the field. We know what needs to be done once our league starts.”
