Sometimes art isn't just a painting.

“Art isn't only a painting,” says author and entrepreneur Seth Godin. “Art is anything that is creative, passionate, and personal.”Take the W Costa Rica – Reserva Conchal. Many elements make the hotel a work of art. There’s the 2000 Bursera Simaruba trees, , which create a live green fence for the hotel's main entrance. There’s the 10,000 sandblasted bottles arranged to form an abstract Guanacaste tree in the Living Room lounge. There’s the round design at the entrance called “Wheels.

Since the first W was created in 1998, this design aesthetic has been paramount in all its hotels. “We do not put up artwork for the sake of it. The art is meaningful and authentic to the destination,” says Ingham. In fact, the art is often created by local artists and is woven into each hotel’s unique narrative. “Every W design detail is intentional and usually ties back to the destination itself,” adds Ingham.
