Bexar County Court 13 Judge Rosie Speedlin Gonzalez walks away from the podium after speaking before Commissioners Court for more funding to aid in domestic violence cases, Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2021. The court went on to accept staff recommendations on providing $3.3 million in funding to aid in the surge of domestic violence and fatalities.
Monday, Speedlin Gonzalez said it was suspicious that the report should arise weeks after she had forgotten to unpack a loaded handgun from her briefcase before she was to board a flight at the San Antonio International Airport — and less than a month before Election Day.
She believes the officer who approached her at the Tobin Center on June 20 was in a bad mood following what she said appeared to be a “heated exchange” he had with the homeless woman, which the judge herself had witnessed. Speedlin Gonzalez said the woman was calm and sitting on the steps of the center and that the officer was “very aggressive” with the woman.
