Rapper A$AP Rocky has been released from Swedish jail — and President Trump is thrilled
Rapper A$AP Rocky was released from Swedish prison Friday, pending the verdict in his court case.to go for a double pun, writing on Twitter:"It was a Rocky Week, get home ASAP A$AP!"
A verdict will be delivered at Stockholm District Court on August 14, but the rapper, real name Rakim Mayers, and his two co-defendants were told they were free to leave Sweden after the trial ended Friday,A Swedish prosecutor called for a six-month prison sentence for the rapper over an alleged assault in Stockholm in June. Mayers pleaded not guilty.
Mayers, 30, was in Stockholm for the Smash music festival on June 30 when he said two men began following him and his entourage, eventually leading to a fight. A TMZ video showed Rocky throwing one of the men across the street. The video also shows some members of Rocky’s group kicking and hitting the person.
Rocky posted his own video on Instagram with his side of the story, which showed his bodyguard telling the men to stop following them. Rocky said in the post that they didn't know the men, who followed them for four blocks. Trump repeatedly called on the Swedish authorities to release the rapper and spoke with Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Löfven to urge him to treat the rapper"fairly," and offering to"personally vouch for his bail, or an alternative."
